The City Government of Davao is offering a total cash prize of P730,000 to the winners of the “Pitik sa Kadayawan 2022” drum beating competition slated for August 21 at the San Pedro Square.

The grand winner will take away P200,000 while the second and third placers will pocket P150,000 and P100,000, respectively.

A cash prize of P50,000 each will be awarded to the fourth and fifth placers. Non-winners will not go home empty-handed as they will each claim a 15,000 consolation prize.

A Deportment Award will also be up for grabs.

The Kadayawan sa Davao organizers, on their official Facebook page, announced that any group, organization, institution, or company can join the competition.

Each competing group must have a minimum of 20 and a maximum of 30 musicians. The entries may mount a maximum of two supporting vehicles, dressed with minimal embellishments inspired by the Kadayawan Festival theme, “Kasikas sa Kadayawan.”

The participating groups must perform an exhibition/routine within three to five minutes.

“The entry’s contest piece may be a free interpretation of the city, Mindanaoan or any provincial folklore, tradition, myth, and legend in the form of live music and shall depict the theme,” according to the Pitik sa Kadayawan official rules and guidelines posted on the page.

The percussions must consist of 80 percent key instruments and 20 percent indigenous instruments like woodwind (kubing, palendag, tumpong, diwas, suling, sahunay, tungali lantoy), and strings (kuglog/kudlong, sauroy/sludoy, kudyapi).

Each entry must also incorporate the Kadayawan sa Davao official jingle in their grand showdown performance. But the use of canned music is strictly prohibited.

All performers of every contingent must wear proper costumes/wardrobes, including their production assistants and ID bearers, being an integral part of the aesthetic value of each presentation.

Only 20 official entries will be allowed to compete. But a selection process is required once the slots are filled.

The deadline for submission of entry forms is on August 5 at the Davao City Tourism Operations Office (CTOO) located on the fourth floor of the Davao City Investment and Tourism Promotions Building, at Palma Gil Street.

The final briefing is scheduled for August 15.
