Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte expressed his gratitude and appreciation for all city government employees– from executives to common workers —in his first State of the City Address (SOCA) at the Sangguniang Panlungsod on Friday.

Duterte said the accomplishments his administration has achieved since he took oath last year are all due to the hard work of every worker in all the offices of the local government unit.

“I want to take this opportunity para magpasalamat usab sa mga taga-gobyerno, labi na tong mga tao na gina-seryoso gyud ilang trabaho sa gobyerno kay kabalo sila nga sa bisag sa gagmay nila na efforts, mga gagmay nilang trabaho maka-apekto sila, makahatag sila’g kalipay, kalambuan sa atong lugar (I want to take this opportunity to also thank the people of the government, especially those people who take their work in the government seriously because they know that even with their small efforts, their small jobs can have an impact, they can happiness, and usher in progress in our city), the mayor said.

“Gikan sa mga tao sa akong opisina down to the street sweepers, thank you kaayo (From the people in my office down to the street sweepers, thank you very much)” he added.

Singling out the hardworking emergency responders from the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) who are required to work at any and all hours of crisis, the mayor said such dedication to public service must serve as inspiration for all government workers across all sectors.

Duterte also highlighted the role every government employee must play in the digitalization and modernization efforts of the city which aim to simplify and streamline government processes.

He named online registration platforms such as the Business Process Licensing System (BPLS), Online Business Permit-Related System (OBPS), as well as the digitalization of services from Lingap Para sa Mahirap, Education Benefit System Unit (EBSU), City Treasurer’s Office, and the Business Bureau, among others as proof of his administration’s commitment to make public transaction easier and more accessible.

Big ticket projects such as the Davao Bus Project and the Davao City Bypass Road, Duterte cited as hallmarks to progress and growth that will soon help shape the future landscape of Davao.

Though the mayor stressed the importance of improving public service through technology and innovation, he asserted that the local government remains committed to conserving and the preserving the city’s natural resources, its diverse culture, and the traditions of its people. CIO
