The Davao City government and the municipality of Chongqing, the People’s Republic of China agreed to enter into a sisterhood agreement to boost their relations.
Vice Mayor Sebastian “Baste” Duterte signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for Davao City while Vice Mayor Xiong Xue signed the deal for Chongqing Municipality last week in Chongqing, China.
VM Baste signed the MoU after the City Council passed a resolution authorizing him to enter the deal on behalf of Davao City.
Davao City Investment and Promotion Center (DCIPC) head April Marie Dayap said the MoU serves as an understanding between the city of Davao and Chongqing for an exchange, exploration, and partnership between the two areas.
Dayap said Chongqing agreed that Davao City would decide which area in the city to explore.
“They let us decide on what will be the center of the sister city agreement. They will wait for our decision and then we will sign a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA),” she said.
Dayap said there are various aspects that Davao City and Chongqing can explore, noting that Chongqing is known as the industrial hub of Southwest China.
“They will wait for our decision. We have yet to decide what it will be,” she added.
If the MOA is pursued, Chongqing will be the third sister city of Davao City in China.
Last year, the city signed the sister-city pact with Jinjang. Davao City has an existing sister-city agreement with Nanning in China. CIO
