City names new DCDRRMC members

Mayor Sebastian Duterte on Wednesday signed Executive Order (EO) No. 35, Series of 2022, naming new members of the Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (DCDRRMC).

The mayor still has to recommend four Civil Society Organizations that will also become members of the DCDRRMC.

The new members are the heads of the City Legal Office (CLO), City Accountant’s Office, Barangay Community and Cultural Affairs Division (BCCAD), City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) and, Ancillary Services Unit (ASU), representatives of the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) 11, Davao Light and Power Company (DLPC) and Davao City Water District (DCWD), the City Council’s committee chairperson on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, and the Coast Guard Station Davao (CGSD) commander.

Retained as members are the heads of the City Planning and Development Office (CPDO), CDRRMO, City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), City Health Office, City Agriculturist’s Office (CAgrO), Integrated Gender and Development Division (IGDD), City Veterinarian’s Office (CVO), City Budget Office (CBO), Department of Education (DepEd) Davao City Schools Division superintendent, Task Force Davao (TFD) commander, Davao City Police Office (DCPO) director, Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) City Fire marshall, Association of Barangay Captain (ABC) president, and Philippine Red Cross (PRC)-Davao City Chapter administrator.

“The City Government of Davao should develop, promote, and implement a comprehensive Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Plan that aims to strengthen the capacity of the local government unit, together with partner stakeholders, to build disaster-resilient communities, and to institutionalize arrangements and measures for
reducing disaster risks. These include projecting climate change risks, enhancing disaster preparedness, and developing response capabilities at all levels,” EO 35 stated.

It also said that it is the city government’s responsibility to provide maximum care, assistance, and services to individuals and families affected by disasters, implement emergency rehabilitation projections to lessen the impact of disasters, and facilitate the resumption of normal social and economic activities.

According to EO 35, the local government, too, must engage the participation of other government institutions, Civil Society Organizations, the private sector, and volunteers in the LGU’s disaster risk reduction programs towards the proper use of resources and effective delivery of service to the citizenry.
