The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board XI said that the reported fare increase for public utility jeepneys, buses, and other public transport is not yet effective in Davao City, which is under the Davao Region. Chances are, Davao Region is not even included in the areas where a fare hike has been approved.

Speaking before the Davao City Disaster Radio Madayaw Program on Monday, LTFRB XI Director Nonito Llanos III said that there was no official announcement from the LTFRB Central office on the fare hike yet.

Llanos said that it is important to check official documents because they state the reason for the increase in fares based on studies made by LTFRB. The official document will also define the applicability of the law, whether it is nationwide or regional or only for those who filed the petition. The LTFRB, Llanos recalled, previously consulted the National Economic Development Authority before it released fare hike orders.

“Wala pa po’y gipagawas nga official statement ang LTFRB. Akong gitan-aw ang opisyal nga kamanduan sa atoang Central office pinaagi sa atoang website, unfortunately, wala pa’y nigawas nga official nga papel, either a board resolution or memorandum circular gikan sa Central Office (The LTFRB has not released an official statement yet. I have looked for the official mandate from the Central Office through the website and unfortunately, there is no official paper released yet, either a board resolution or a memorandum circular from the Central Office),” Llanos said.

Llanos added that in the Davao Region, they have not received a single petition from any transport group for a fare hike.

“Ang akoa lang mahatag nga information nga ipahibalo, Davao Region wala ta’y nadawat nga even usa ka petition. Wala pud ko nakahibawo nga duna’y petitions nga submitted to the central office from our region nga gidirect didto sa central office, pero naay transport groups sa NCR, Region 3 and Region 4 and other transport groups outside of these regions nga nagpagawas og petition ngadto sa Central Office way back May (What I can divulge is that in Davao Region, we did not receive even a single petition. We also do not know if there are petitions from our region that are brought to the central office. But there are transport groups in the National Capital Region, Region 3 and 4 and other transport groups outside Davao that filed a petition to the Central Office way back May),” Llanos said.

He asked the public to wait first for the issuance of an order.

“Muhangyo ko sa atong kaigsuunan nga huwat huwat lang usa ta sa unsa ang kamandoan kay og nakita sa LTFRB ang epekto sa pagsaka sa petrolyo kinahanglan nationwide even though walay petition diri sa Region 11 pero pinaagi sa pagtuon pinaagi sa giya sa lain laing ahensya atong sundon, kung walay labot si Region 11 ato pud ning sundon. (We are asking the public to wait for the order, because if the LTFRB will see that the rise in the price of fuel has a nationwide impact, there will be a fare hike nationwide even though there is no petition here in Region 11. But if Region XI is not included, we will also follow,” Llanos said. CIO
