The Davao City Traffic Transportation Management Office (CTTMO) has started the crackdown against the use of fake Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) drivers’ identification in the city.

City Traffic Chief Dionisio Abude said the move was aimed at stopping drivers who are possessing or using drivers’ IDs not their own.

The move came following the arrest of a jeepney driver using a fake driver’s ID when he was flagged down sometime last week.

“We also received information that in Toril area, there are people who make fake Driver’s ID. We verified it and we found out that it was true that is why we apprehend them in coordination with the police,” Abude said without providing additional detail.

Abude said the city-issued PUV IDs have special features, such as the QR Code, which can be verified through the smartphones issued to traffic enforcers.

“If the driver is holding a fake ID, we will apprehend him for falsification (of a public document),” Abude said.

On Friday, CTTMO traffic enforcers flagged down public utility jeepneys to check on the authenticity of their Driver’s IDs.

Traffic enforcers scanned the QR codes on the IDs to check if these were the same ones that the city government had issued.

Once the ID matches the details of the QR code on file, the drivers were immediately cleared and were allowed to proceed to their travel. CIO
