The Davao City Transport and Traffic Management Office is (CTTMO) finalizing regulations for the possible added identification markings of motorized vehicles. The office is also working on the amendment to the Traffic Code to increase the penalty for violation of illegal parking by large vehicles.
CTTMO Head Dionisio Abude, in a media interview Monday, said that they found the necessity to put markings on motorized vehicles applying for MTOP.
“Kung unsa ang nakabutang sa kilid kilid mao pud ang nakabutang sa atop, dapat naa gyud sila’y number sa taas para ma capture sa CCTV (The number reflected at the side of the vehicle will also be placed at the top of the vehicle so that it can be captured by the CCTV),” Abude said, adding that this scheme will be done for easier identification of vehicles, their location and driver/operator.
Abude said that this is in light of the recent rape slay in Calinan that involved a motorized vehicle.
âMaidentify nato diretso kung taga asa siya and makita gani ang number kung kinsa siya (We will directly identify where the vehicle is registered and we can also check the number to check ownership),â Abude said.
Meanwhile, Abude said that they will impose a uniform-sized and unique code based on each area and the number would be based on the list provided by the Motorized Vehicle Franchising and Regulatory Division (MVRD).
The visible identification marks will soon become a requirement for every motorized vehicle and the MVFRD is joining barangay caravans to announce this development.
He added that the MVFRD is also studying to limit the approval of vehicles according to the number of vehicles needed by passengers in a specific area and make a priority for approval those which have complete documents and are road worthy.
“Kadtong mga complete mao to ang number one sa priority hangtod muabot sa number needed (Those which have complete documents will be prioritized until the needed number is reached),” he said.
On the other hand, Abude also said that their office already lobbied the Sannguniang Panlungsod for the amendment to the Comprehensive Traffic Code to increase the illegal parking of big trucks from Php 500- Php5000.
He said that violators of prescribed parking, particularly trailers, wingvans, and dump trucks – which are left on the highway without early warning devices – cause involving other motor vehicles. He said that the increased fees will serve as a deterrent.
“Gi-refer na nako ni sa City Legal and naa na ni karon sa City Council (I already referred this matter to the City Legal and it is now at the level of the City Council),” Abude said.
He said that since this is a penalty for traffic violations, only violators will be charged. CIO
