To avoid traffic incidents involving trucks, the City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) placed 24/7 checkpoints to inspect the brakes of trucks heading to Diversion Road.

CTTMO Head Dionisio Abude during the I-Speak Media Forum held Thursday said that their office has deployed personnel to monitor trucks going to the south and the north.

“Naa ta’y checkpoint para sa going south sa may Crocodile Park, going north sa may Japanese Tunnel didto sa may City Hardware. Kana ongoing na siya nga naa didto (We have a checkpoint for vehicles going south at Crocodile Park and north at the Japanese Tunnel near the City Hardware. It is now ongoing in those areas),” Abude said.

The monitoring starts after lifting the truck ban; the first shift is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and the second shift, is from 4 p.m. to 5 a.m.

“Ginatan-aw nato karon kung muagi ang trailer, kung muagi ang wingvan, kung naa ba siya’y breaking system nga 100 percent dili magkaproblema. In kaso naay problema gina-advisan nila nga mugamit sa Mc Arthur Highway. (What we are looking at, in every passing trailer or wingvan is that they have a breaking system that is 100 percent in good working condition. In case there is a problem, they are advised to take McArthur Highway),” Abude said, adding that the deployed personnel were trained by experts whom they invited.

Abude said they are also planning to add more checkpoints and hope this scheme effectively prevents accidents.

He said this scheme is their action after recent vehicular accidents on Diverson Road involving many vehicles.

He said drivers too should observe good discipline while they are on the road, as their office can only do so much.

“Dapat naa gyud sa driver ang disiplina kay dili nato mabantayan ang tibuok Davao. Bisan pa wala ta’y tao sa kalsada kung ang driver dili reckless, safety ang iyang pag drive, wala gyud mahitabo. Bag-o mugawas dapat kolundisyon ang sakyanan ug kundisyon ang driver (The driver should discipline themselves because we cannot cover the whole of Davao City. Even if we do not deploy personnel on the streets if the driver is not reckless and drives safely, nothing will happen),” Abude said. CIO
