The Indak-Indak sa Kadayawan competition, which is one of the main highlights of the Kadayawan Festival, is grander this year with previous winners having their comebacks for the Davao School-based Category and champions of street dancing contests from all over Mindanao in the open category.

Naa po’y choreographers dinhi nga nag champion na pud sila sa atong Indak-Indak sa Kadayawan. (This year the winners of various festivals all over Mindanao like Agusan, Surigao, and competitions from T’nalak-from Cotabato have joined and will be competing. We also have choreographers that already won as champion in the previous Indak-Indak sa Kadayawan),” Harold Quibete, organizer of the Indak Indak sa Kadayawan said in an interview over Davao City Disaster Radio Wednesday.
Quibete said that for the Davao School-based Category, previous Indak-Indak winners – Davao City National High School and Catalunan Pequeno National High School – will take part in the competition. The Sindac Anib Performing Ensemble of Bislig City, Surigao del Sur, the 2022 Open Category winner will also defend its title.
“Sa atong (For our) Indak-Indak sa Kadayawan we are happy to announce that we have a total of 19 contingents, 6 coming from the Davao City School Based Category and we have a total of 13 competitors coming from cities and provinces and organizations that are found outside Mindanao,” Quibete said, adding that one open category contingent is from Akbar municipality in Basilan.
Quibete said that indeed, this year’s Indak-Indak is an event to watch out for as it is the showcase of “artistic minds of the artistic directors and the talent of choreographers”.
He said that their team already conducted critiquing and saw the level of preparedness of contingents that will be participating for the first time. He said that these teams, which did not join before due to financial considerations, have shown huge potential and should not be underestimated.
Roxas St. Corner CM Recto or Marco Polo, Bonifacio Corner Pelayo Junction, and San Pedro Square are the designated showdown areas. Each of these areas will be manned by judges.
Quibete enjoins Dabawenyo to jointly pray for good weather during the street dance competition and all of the remaining street events.
As it is also the first time this year that the Indak-Indak will start at 2 pm, Quibete extended huge thanks to the security personnel for making preparations with the adjusted time.
He urged Dabawenyos to follow the safety and security measures implemented during the event and to observe the culture of security embodied in “Pag may nakita, magsalita”.
Meanwhile, the Kadayawan Festival organizers through the Kadayawan Festival Page already advised Dabawenyos to wear hats, bring fans, bring extra shirts, sunblock, candies and crackers, and water and beverages in transparent containers when going to Kadayawan activities.
Umbrellas, backpacks, lighters and cigarettes, alcoholic beverages, infant and small children, laser lights, sharp and bladed objects, and firearms are not allowed in event areas.
Dabawenyos are also urged to follow the evacuation plan in case of natural disasters and man-induced disasters.
