A winner-take-all cash prize of P550,000 and a perpetual trophy handcrafted by renowned homegrown artist Kublai Millan awaits the Tribu Maisugon awardee in this year’s Alveo Ironman 70.3 Davao set to kick off on March 26.

Sports Development Division of the City Mayor’s Office (SDD-CMO) officer-in-charge Mikey Aportadera bared this during the I-Speak Forum held at the Davao City Hall conference room on Thursday, February 9, 2023.

The grand prize was initially pegged at P500,000 but Davao Light Power Company, Inc. added P50,000 to the purse.

He said, “Mayor (Sebastian) Baste Duterte encouraged more excitement for this year’s Ironman hosting. Team Maisugon emanates from the 11 tribes where Davao City is focused on.”

To honor the city’s 11 tribes, the Tribu Maisugon team event was included along with regular categories individual men and women pro/elite, relay all male, relay all female, and relay mixed.

The special category, according to him, is open to teams with 11 age groupers each, regardless of their age, gender, race, nationality, language, or color.

Aportadera said, the team with the fastest total time will capture the coveted award. Organizers will tabulate the time of each teams’ top 11 finishers to determine the victor.

Registrants are, therefore, urged to input their team names properly upon filling out their entry forms, following this same format – Team (name of team) – and not (name) Team, to be eligible for the tabulation.

However, individual active national team members from any nation are not eligible to play as a single team, but can be recruited individually. Each team is limited to a maximum of one active national team member.

Aportadera said the Alveo Ironman 70.3 Davao has attracted at least 1,600 entries from 46 countries as of press time.
