Meetings, Incentives, Conferences & Exhibitions (MICE) Convention, which will be among prime tourism activities to be pushed next year, is expected to advertise Davao as a prime destination for meetings, incentives, conventions, and events, an official said.

Newly installed City Tourism Operations Officer-in-Charge, Jennifer Romero, in an interview over the Davao City Disaster Radio on Tuesday morning, said that the MICECon is among the events lined up to boost Davao’s tourism industry.

“We have several line up of events nga ma-expose ang Davao.. For next year nga atong gina-expect aside from Araw ng Dabaw which will be on March 1, Davao City will be hosting MICECon. Dako kaayo ni siya nga event nga atong pwede maipakita as starter para atong i-showcase that Davao City will be the strong MICE destination sa Pilipinas (We have several line up of events that will expose Davao.. For the next year, we expect aside from the Araw ng Dabaw which will be on March 1, Davao City will be hosting MICECon. This is a huge event which we could show as a starter to showcase that Davao will be a strong MICE destination in the Philippines),” Romero said.

She added that the MICE plays a massive role in tourism because it creates revenue return.

“The local conventions meetings, and exhibitions dako kaayo siyag matabang not only for the hospitality industry but sa tanang tourism establishments ning siyudad (The local conventions, meetings and exhibitions is a huge help, not only for the hospitality industry but all tourism establishments in the city),” Romero added.

She said prioritizing MICE helps the whole tourism industry, especially now that restrictions have been loosened.

She said that launching events such as these is timely because the hospitality industry has been down for a time due to the pandemic.

“Two years very down gyud atong tourism or the hospitality industry and tourism industry mao gyud ang pinaka nga nahit sa pandemic and this would be a great time for us to really strengthen our initiatives kay kinahanglan gyud nato mubangon to help our stakeholders para atong itaas ang turismo sa dakbayan mao gyud na ang atoang priority (Our tourism has been down for two years and the tourism or the hospitality industry are the most affected by the pandemic and this will be a great time for us to strengthen our initiatives because we need to rise to help our stakeholders to also help tourism in our city, that is our priority),” Romero said.

She added that the CTOO will partner and collaborate with the stakeholders to formulate action plans for tourism in the coming years. CIO
