In its second year of holding the Kadayawan Festival on the digital platform amid a coronavirus pandemic, Davao City opens the 36th Kdayawan sa Davao on Friday showcasing oneness and resilience learned through the rich culture of the eleven tribes.

The Digital Celebration highlights the city’s abundance of cultural traditions, and talents of Dabawenyos like “we are not in a pandemic”.

Lively dance performances and original compositions lifting the Dabawenyo spirit and pride were aired joyously on the digital screen.

City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte leads the celebration and together with the representatives of eleven tribes marked the start of the digital activities by banging the gong.

In her speech, the mayor acknowledged the second year of celebrating the festival digitally as a testament to the Dabawenyos resilience amidst the adversities as one multi-cultural community.

“It is only fitting that we continue to honor the wealth of our culture and recognize the numerous contribution of our people for generations from the comforts of home,” the mayor said.

To emerge a stronger and much more steadfast Davao City community, the mayor encouraged everyone to discover the roots of the city’s highly cultural foundation in this year’s celebration.

She also encouraged everyone to continue to nurture/respect our mother nature, the city’s culture, and origins.

Thousands of Dabawenyos joined the digital showcase of the opening as the live video aired garnered 24,000 views, 55,800 impressions, 9,400 engagements, 1,224 comments, 2,377 shares, and 5,777 reactions.

Tunog Kadayawan featuring world-class homegrown talents of the city also premiered at 8:00 PM on the opening days.

On August 21, the featured events are the Tribu Kadayawan Part 1 at 3:00 PM, Sayaw Kadayawan at 8:00 PM, and Pahalipay: Globe #AtoangKadayawan at 9:00 PM.

On August 22, the Tribu Kadayawan Part 2 will be aired at 10:00 AM and Indak Indak sa Kadayawan at 5:00 PM and Habi Kadayawan at 8:00 PM.
