34th Kadayawan Festival kicks off

Davao City has officially opened the 34th Kadayawan Festival on Monday with the 11 tribes showcasing their different culture.

The opening called Subang Sinugdanan is one of the major highlights of this year’s Kadayawan Festival which is the grandest celebration so far.

The Kadayawan Village at the Magsaysay Park opened to the public while a 3D light show at the City Hall building entertains the public from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. until the 25th of August.

All major festival events are happening on weekends throughout August.

City Hall employees have their share of fun during the Araw ng mga Empleyado on the 9th. On the same day, the city’s culture will be featured during the Habi Kadayawan.

The two-day Kadayawan Dragon Boat Festival is slated on August 10 to 11 while the final selection of a new Hiyas ng Kadayawan is scheduled on August 11 at 3 p.m. l be held at the RMC Petro Gazz Arena.

Meanwhile, the new Museo Dabawenyo will also open on August 15; the Tribal Games on August 16, and the Sayaw Kadayawan also on August 16.

The much-awaited Indak-indak sa Kadayawan, an annual competition during the festivity, is slated on August 17.

A Kadayawan Farmer’s Market at Magsaysay Park is open to the public on August 21 to 25.

The song writing contest dubbed “Tunog sa Kadayawan” will be held on August 23 at the Matina Town Square while the Pamulak sa Kadayawan, the photography contest, drum-beating competition called “Pitik sa Kadayawan”, and the traditional dance and song competition “Tambayayong Kadayawan” will happen on August 24.
