At least 250 contingents have signed up for the 86th Araw ng Dabaw Parada Dabawenyo set on March 18.

HQ Production founder Harold Quibete, Parada Dabawenyo event organizer, bared this during the Madayaw Davao program of 87.5 Davao City Disaster Radio (DCDR) program on Thursday, March 2.

He said civic, non-government organizations (NGOs), people’s organizations (POs), private companies, schools and universities, government agencies, and barangay units only have until March 6, 2023 to submit official entry forms.

The entry forms are available at the City Tourism Operations Office, housed on the fourth floor of the Davao City Investment and Promotions Center, Palma Gil St., Davao City, or contact CTOO (0927) 8122566 for inquiries.

Quibete said each contingent should have a minimum of 25 and a maximum of 50 walking members.

However, participating contingents must indicate in the entry form if they are walking contingent, in float, or to be accompanied by a band.

“Bawal magdala og motor, iwit gyud na sila. Dili ta ga allow vehicles kay ang fumes ana masimhot sa galakaw, delikado (Don’t bring a motorbike or you would be queued last. We are not allowing vehicles because the fumes can be smelled by walking contingents, it’s dangerous),” he said.

The Parada Dabawenyo in 2019 drew 636 contingents, almost tripling the 246 entries in 2018.

He encouraged contingents to keep the elderly who can no longer walk a long distance from joining the parade and suggested settling them at San Pedro Square instead for a better view of the activity.

Quibete said, “Safety and security is our number one priority.” He added that the city’s security cluster is set to enforce its security plan for the parade.

The City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) will be first in the parade order, followed by the City Government of Davao, Sangguniang Panlungsod, national government offices, NGOs, civic contingents, and the safety and security cluster.

Pet clubs will also be queued among the first contingents to keep the pets safe from the heat.

A coordination meeting is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on March 10 at the Davao City Recreation Center (DCRC), formerly Almendras Gym.
