Davao City Sports Development Division Head Michael Denton Aportadera, in an interview on Wednesday, said that it is now all systems go for the Ironman race, which will start on March 23.

“So far, everything is already set. Ang amuang ginahulat is para sa race day na lang, diha nato mahibal-an if our preparations are enough (So far everything is already set. We are only waiting for the race day, that is when we will know if our preparations are enough),” Aportadera said during the Madayaw Dabaw morning program.

Concerned local and national offices for the Ironman Race had a final coordination meeting at the Davao Light and Power Corporation (DLPC) Building on Tuesday afternoon.

“We have exhaustively again and again planned out everything. We did a lot of walkthroughs. We did a lot of planning for the security, safety, most particularly the traffic,” Aportadera said in an earlier interview.

During the meeting with the concerned offices, findings and concerns raised after the final walkthrough done by the concerned offices at the Azuela Cove conducted on Tuesday morning were also discussed.

Security offices and national government offices concerned made commitments for the race preparations. The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) discussed preparations for earthquake or flooding incidents during the race.

Aportadera advised the public to enjoy the Ironman Race as it is a free event. They should not forget to bring water for hydration as they watch the race unfold.

He added that everyone, including him, is excited about the event as it is staged after two years.

The participants for the Ironman Race hail from 49 countries all over the world and so far as to the latest, around 1700 participants are on the list for the event. CIO
