New Center for Abused Women, Children Opens in Davao

The new Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC) Center in Catalunan Grande opened on Wednesday to cater to and help secure women and children who are victims of violence.

Julius Villafuerte, the Barangay Administrator, said that the center has its own billeting area to house victims of VAWC for their own safety.

“Gihatagan og emphasis sa atoang Kapitan, January Duterte, nga gusto jud niya nga nay kaugalingog building. Dili lang simpleng opisina kundi building nga mag cater sa ilaha panahon sa manginahanglan sila”, Villafuerte said.

Victims can lodge their complaints at the center while ensuring their safety from their aggressors at the same time.

Villafuerte explained that the staff of the VAWC Center is tasked to ensure the safety and security of the victims while their case is still pending.

“Kung nay mga away sa pamilya, kasagaran dominante ang lalaki, lupig pud sa kusog ang babae. Ubos sa balaod naka butang nga kinahanglan ipalayo sila sa lalaki nga nag pasakit sa ilaha, andam ang atoag mga staff nga mag hatag og protection order sa mga biktima”, he said.

Villafuerte added that through the VAWC center, women and children who are victims of abuses are given assurance that the barangay will always be there to help and protect them. CIO
