The Davao City Integrated Gender and Development Division (IGDD) will be holding an 18-day campaign in a bid to eliminate violence against women and children (VAWC).

IGDD Head, Miss Lorna Mandin, announced during the ISpeak Media Forum on Thursday that the campaign will be launched on November 24 at SM Annex.

The theme for this year’s campaign is “United for a VAW-free city,” and will run from November 25 to December 12, in time for the International Day Against Trafficking.

Mandin said that the campaign emphasizes the need to end all forms of discrimination and harassment towards women and children.

The IGDD has multiple events lined up for the campaign starting with their launching which will be attended by different barangays, schools, and agencies.

There is also an ongoing gender sensitivity and ending VAW sessions with newly elected Sangguniang Kabataan officials.

Aside from this, there are separate sessions for consultations with VAW survivors, and for service providers.

“Ginatan-aw nato unsa ang kasinatian sa mga clients, sa mga survivors, unsa ang mga balaod nga ilahang na-avail, unsa ang difficulties, unsa pud ang ilahang mga recommendations. Similar questions atoang ginapangutana sa service providers (We are looking at the experiences of the clients, the VAW survivors, on the laws that they were able to avail of, the difficulties they faced, and what they can recommend to make the services better. Service providers are asked the same questions),” Mandin said.

There will also be forums with male champions on their role in ending VAW. A session forum with the business sector on combating trafficking in persons will also take place in partnership with DoT XI.

On December 12, with the Department of Justice (DOJ) Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking XI (IACAT XI), there will be a culmination event with short film competitions focused on mass trafficking.

“Ang city naga-spearhead sa event kauban ang atoang mga partners naga-invite mi nga naa’y mag-attend not only sa launching pero ang mapadayunon nga paningkamot sa pag-undang sa violence against women (The city is spearheading the event, along with our partners, and we inviting the public to attend and participate not only during the launching but also in the continued effort in ending violence against women).” CIO
