The City Government of Davao, through the Task Force Davao and Peace 911, fetched students from the Davao Region who were studying in the Mindanao State University in Marawi City.
A total of 16 students– three from Davao City, five from Tagum, two from Digos, two from Monkayo, while the rest are from Mawab, Pantukan, Malita, and Lupon āarrived in Davao City on Tuesday noon.
TFD Commander Col. Darren Comia said the city government reached out to the military unit in Marawi to inquire on the safety situation immediately after the blast on December 3 that killed 4 and injured over 40 people.
āNagtanong tayo sa MSU administration and officials at Ć½on nga, doon na nabuo ang plano sunduin Ć½ong mga bata, mga estudyante na nanggaling sa Davao Region, sa Davao City in particular. At sa ngayon nga nakarating ng matiwasay Ć½ong ating mga estudyante coming from MSU, Marawi (We asked the MSU administration and officials and that’s when the plan was formed to pick up those children, students who came from the Davoa Region, Davao City in particular. And right now, our students coming from MSU, Marawi arrived safely),āsaid Comia upon welcoming the students.
The local government of Davao City, according to Comia, immediately sent a bus to pick up the students and a number of soldiers to escort them during the entire trip home.
Students from neighbouring provinces were welcomed by representatives from their local government units who came to the city after coordinating with the Peace 911.
Before sending them home, the City Social Welfare Development Office (CSWDO) gathered the students for a psychosocial debriefing.
MSU Alumni Association Davao Chapter President Engr. William Masiga said he was thankful for the prompt response from the local government. He also called for sobriety and reminded the public that in condemning the heinous attack, they must also avoid attributing the gruesome act to the entire Muslim population.
