The City Government of Davao is accepting donations for families and individuals affected by the severe flooding that hit 16 barangays and the massive fire that razed hundreds of houses in Soliman, Barangay Monteverde in Agdao.

City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) Head Julie Dayaday on Thursday said their office will continue to accept donations at the Rizal Park until Sunday, November 19.

Ready-to-eat food, bottled water, hygiene kits, sleeping materials (mats, blankets), disposable underwear, utensils, slippers, diapers, sanitary pads, candies and toys are among the most-needed items of those affected by the fire.

Although the CSWDO will accept donations of clothes, Dayaday pleaded to the public to only donate items that are in good condition.

ā€œAng ako lang panawagan when it comes to clothes, please hatagan lang nato og dignidad kay dili basurahan ang atong mga evacuees. Nasunogan na sila, hatagan nato sila og disente na mga sanina (I only ask, when it comes to clothes, is let us please give with dignity because our evacuees are not trash bins. Their homes were destroyed by fire, let us give them decent clothing),ā€ she said.

Dayaday also said that those who wish to donate medicine must consult with the City Health Office.

As of Thursday, a total of 170 families affected by the Barangay Soliman fire remain in the two evacuation centers of Leon Garcia High School and Kapitan Tomas Monteverde Elementary School.

Meanwhile, all 19,099 families affected by the flooding in Talomo, Toril, and Tugbok have returned to their homes.

The CSWDO will sort through all donations in order to turn over only the most appropriate items to the victims of both incidents. CIO
