The City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) feted the barangay with the most functional Pag-asa Youth Association (PYAP) during the celebration of the 49th Pag-asa Youth Association Founding Anniversary at the Grand Menseng Hotel on October 7.
Barangay Lampianao became the overall champion, followed by Barangay Los Amigos and Barangay Mudiang in Bunawan District. The winners received cash prizes and certificates.
CSWDO head Julie P. Dayaday, in an interview with the Madayaw team, said that the PYAP of Barangay Lampianao bested other barangays in running the organization, the programs it has for the community, and the activities it provides to help develop the youth in the community.
“Kining atoang winner nakita gyud nato nga nag-excel sila kay han-ay ang ilang programa sa community. Naa sila’y mga different activities nga na-conduct bisan pa nga naglisud, bisan pa nga naa’y mga challenges pero na-overcome gyud nila and naa sila’y participation didto sa atoang mga community. Dili lang kay nagtan-aw sila sa ilahang association or group kun dili nag expand pa sila didto sa other members of the community (Our winner excelled because of the way the programs for the community were organized. It was able to conduct different activities even in the challenging times, even with the presence of challenges it was able to overcome, and it also has participation in the community),” Dayaday said.
Dayaday, in a speech during the awarding, said that the purpose of the event is to acknowledge the efforts of PYAPs in the city.
The PYAP is one of the strategies of the Unlad Kabataan Program (UKP) that the CSWDO has been utilizing since the organization registered on July 29, 1974. The Pag-asa Youth Association of the Phillipines, Inc., or PYAP is a duly constituted barangay-based organization of the out-of youth between 15-24 years old and are clients of the CSWDO.
Currently, the CSWDO, with youth coordinators in every district, was able to organize more than 2,000 out-of-school youth all over Davao City. CIO
