The City Government of Davao and Globe Telecom kicked off the “Go! Konek Tayo, Davao”, which provides accessible internet connectivity in the city’s key public areas and other barangays, in a virtual launch held Wednesday afternoon, August 18.

Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte, in a virtual message, thanked Globe Telecom for its support to the city government over the years and for providing fast and secure internet connectivity to the public, this time, with the Globe Go Wifi and Konek Tayo Wifi services.

“With the growing number of internet users in the city comes the need for faster, more secure, and more affordable and accessible Wifi connections. Especially now that COVID-19 has pushed us to turn to online platforms to reach out to others, to access basic needs, and to pursue essential activities related to health, work, education, and economy,” Mayor Duterte said.

She continued, “Truly, the future is online. And it is for this reason that we are grateful for internet service providers like Globe for ensuring that the people of Davao City are in step with the rest of the world and we are on track towards progress and development in the rise of the digital age.”

Globe President and CEO Ernest L. Cu bared that the Go Wifi will be available at the Davao City Hall and Davao People’s Park while the Konek Tayo Wifi will soon be deployed in barangays Sasa, Bucana, 22-C, and S.I.R. Villages 1 and 2.

Cu said the kick-off is a significant milestone for Globe and Davao as it elevates their partnership to new heights.

“This partnership gives the people accessible connectivity to Go Tayo Wifi and Konek Tayo Wifi. Bringing the Internet to the Filipino masses and getting them online is the priority of Globe, especially that our current situation makes it an essential component for most of our everyday lives. It enables us to work, to learn, to protect our health, to communicate, and access essential services,” Cu said, adding that the Internet serves as a vital tool at a time when everyday movement is restricted due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cu also said that with the partnership in place, Globe and Davao City leaders seek to connect residents and communities online so they can have access to important services that require an Internet connection.

Davao City Vice Mayor Baste Duterte, who graced the virtual launch via Zoom and live-streamed via the Go Wifi Facebook Page, also thanked Globe for choosing Davao City as a partner in their Go Wifi and Konek Tayo Wifi project.

The vice mayor said, “This partnership will give Dabawenyos the chance to stay connected through accessible internet connectivity within key public areas in the city. We are likewise excited to provide affordable internet services to Dabawenyo households through this campaign.”

The ongoing pandemic, according to him, gives people a new perspective on the importance of staying connected online, both for personal and professional reasons.CIO
