As part of the security measures that will be implemented starting with the reopening of the Roxas Night Market on September 12, the Task Force Davao has conducted an anti-terrorism forum – which was attended by officials and tanods of Barangay 32-D.

The Roxas Night Market is under the jurisdiction of the said barangay.

TFD head Colonel Cnsolito Yecla said that a total of 25 barangay officials and tanods attended the forum, in which security measures for the area were also discussed.

Yecla said that the main goal of the forum is to inculcate the culture of security in each individual to prevent a repeat of the terrorist attack on Roxas Night Market, which killed over a dozen persons four years ago.

“The objective of the meeting is to instill the sense of responsibility among the attendees in ensuring the security in their area, including the portion of Night Market,” he said. “We are also presenting to them their role as a barangay official or tanod in the culture of security.”

Yecla said that the culture of security will play a big part in maintaining the safety of Davao City, especially that each person plays a big role, insofar as reporting unusual movements and persons, and participating in the security measures implemented.

The TF Davao is currently on a red alert status following the August 24, 2020 twin bombings in Jolo, Sulu.

The attacks were reminiscent of the Roxas Night Market bombing that killed 15 people and injured 74 others.

Aside from officials of 32-D, other barangay chieftains also underwent a 3-day seminar on the culture of security to empower communities and strengthen the TF Davao’s campaign against terrorism.

Yecla introduced to the barangay chieftains the “Barangay ko, bantay ko” concept, which aims to empower the barangay officials in ensuring the peace and security of their areas of responsibilities.

“Task Force Davao intends to present the Culture of Security to all punong barangays to maximize their potential in the implementation of the culture of security,” he said. CIO
