To further ensure the safety and security of Dabawenyos, the Task Force Davao implemented stricter security measures following the bombing attack at MSU in Marawi.
With the ongoing activities for Pasko Fiesta in the city, Task Force Davao Commander Col. Darren Comia said, in an interview with the Madayaw Program over the city-owned Davao City Disaster Radio (DCDR) on Monday, that they have strengthened their security forces in downtown Davao and the entry points of the city.
“Even before the unfortunate incident yesterday sa Marawi, ang inyohang PSSO, Davao City Police Office, at Task Force Davao, naglatag na ng kanilang pwersa para isecure ang lahat ng events ng Pasko Fiesta 2023. In fact, on November 28 nagstart na tayo ng deployment ng mga forces sa lahat ng venues ng events ng Pasko Fiesta. Sa pangyayari kahapon sa Marawi kung saan mayroon nga’ng pambobomba doon sa MSU, nag beef up tayo ng security forces sa dito sa downtown Davao City at the same time doon sa mga entry points, mga papasok sa Davao City (Even before the unfortunate incident yesterday in Marawi, the PSSO, Davao City Police Office (DCPO), and Task Force Davao have already deployed personnel around the city and in the venues of the activities for the Pasko Fiesta event. The deployment started on November 28. With the bombing attack in Marawi yesterday, we have beefed up our security forces in downtown Davao City and the entry points of Davao City),” he said.
They are also conducting stricter security checks with people and vehicles entering the city. Moreover, they have also intensified their bus boarding operations at all border points.
According to Comia, they also conducted visibility patrols wherein they enhanced the police patrols and TF Davao along with different government agencies to ensure safety and security not only in the entry points but also within the city.
Comia also said that the city has not received any direct threats or information about any security threat.
“Para sa kaalaman ng lahat, wala po tayong natanggap na direct threat. Wala po tayong information na may threat ang Davao City, even ngayon, wala po tayong natatanggap na threat dito sa Davao City. Of course, continuously minomonitor po natin yung development, yung threat situation doon sa Central Mindanao kasama ng PSSO, yung Davao City Police Office, pinagtutulong-tulongan po namin i-monitor yung development sa threat situation sa Central Mindanao kasi yung threat sa Davao City nanggagaling naman po sa Central Mindanao kasi alam naman natin na yung mga local terrorist group, ito po yung mga threat sa Davao City (For the information of everyone, the city has not received any security threats nor is there information of said threats in the city. Of course, we are continuously monitoring the threat situation in Central Mindanao along with the PSSO and the Davao City Police Office because as we know the threat in the city comes from the local terrorist groups),” he said.
Comia asked Dabawenyos anew to cooperate with the city’s security forces and to be advocates of the culture of security in the city. Dabawenyos are encouraged to volunteer themselves for security checks and to not hesitate to report suspicious activities, people, and unattended baggage.
