PSSO to maintain no security incident status for the New Year

Public Safety and Security Office Head Angel Sumagaysay in an interview over Davao City Disaster Radio Tuesday said that the security clusters shall follow the security plan for the New Year while urging the public to also do their part and follow security and safety protocols, especially the use of fireworks and guns.

“Kaning event nato umaabot encompassing na ni siya tanan-tanan na ni and amo lang gyud ginapanapawagan na dili gyud mugamit og mga pabuto nga makasamad sa atong kaigsuunan, ang mga pusil kadtong mga firearm holders nga dili sila magpabuto pagsugod sa bag-ong tuig kay ngano man ang stray bullets ana (This incoming event is encompassing, for everyone, and we urge the public not to use fireworks that could hurt others, and also guns, [we also urge the] firearm holders not to fire their guns at the start of the new year because the stray bullets [could hit someone]),” Sumagaysay said.

Sumagaysay said that during the Christmas Celebration, there had been no significant incidents and that not a single person was admitted to the hospital due to a firecracker injury. This is also based on the feedback of police officers in their separate areas of jurisdiction.

He added that following the security plan, security forces will maintain vigilance for other criminal acts such as burglaries.

He said that they expect an influx of people to the convergence areas and the beaches after the new year and have alerted the concerned security personnel to monitor possible drowning incidents.

Sumagaysay said that they have also alerted concerned security agencies for possible emergencies that may occur during hiking and trekking. He also warned the public to coordinate with the barangay when they plan the mentioned activities to ensure their safety.

He added that not long ago, some trekkers/hikers got trapped in the mountains due to heavy rains and
were unable when crossing the raging waters of rivers. Luckily they were rescued by Bantay Bukid and the Central 911 Search and Rescue Units.

With this, Sumagaysay urged the public to see all the considerations whenever they want to go outdoors to have fun.

“Dili lang enjoyment tan-awon sa atong kaigsuunan pero i-anticipate pud nila kay daghan consideration dapat tan-awon, ang weather, ang area, kay basin mga slide mo dinha, again ginatan-aw nato tanan tanan (Enjoyment should not be the only thing that Dabawenyos should consider. They should also anticipate other considerations, such as weather, the area, and the possibility that they will slip or fall over. Again, we should consider everything),” he added.

As to the malls, the PSSO already anticipated an influx of people for the New Year. Sumagaysay told the public to enjoy the occasion as much as they can because they are secured by personnel assigned in their respective areas.

“Enjoy lang mo mga katawhan anyway atong security and safety personnel andam sa pagtabang sa ilaha habang gina-enjoy ninyo ang new year nia rami anytime musupport in coordination labi na sa malls, sa security management (The people should just enjoy because anyway our security and safety personnel are prepared to help them.
