The Public Safety and Security Command Center (PSSCC) has reported a generally peaceful observance of the Holy Week, thanking Dabawenyos, barangay officials, volunteers, and the Catholic church hierarchy in the city for their cooperation and support in the implementation of the security measures.
PSSCC head Angel Sumagaysay in an interview on the Davao City Disaster Radio (DCDR) Monday morning said that the cooperation of the people has contributed to the peaceful observance of the Holy Week in the city. He said that the security cluster did not receive reports of Holy-week-related untoward activities.
“Proud to say nga ang Holy Week nato natapos na generally peaceful gyud siya. Wala ta’y natala nga Holy Week significant incident, petty crimes naa, pero kung related sa activities last week-negative (Proud to say that our Holy Week ended generally peaceful. We did not record significant incidents during the Holy Week except for petty crimes but as to crimes related to activities last week – negative),” he said.
He said that the security plan for the Holy Week was fully implemented.
“Na-achieve nato ang goal na zero incident siya. So ako nagpalasamat sa tanan-tanan nga cooperation sa atoang communidad ug sa atoang security cluster (We achieved our goal to have zero incident. So I am grateful for the cooperation of our community and the security cluster),” he said.
According to Sumagaysay, the tight security in the city was ensured with the augmentation of forces from the 10th Infantry Division,10th Regional Community Defense Group (RCDG) of the Philippine Army Reserve Command, the 1105th Ready Reserve Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army, and the 2202nd Infantry Brigade (Ready Reserve). The augmentation doubled the number of security personnel deployed in the city’s churches.
Sumagaysay said that after the Easter Sunday church celebrations members of the security forces were also deployed to the beach and inland resorts, transport terminals, and seaports.
Davao City Police Office (DCPO) Spokesperson Maj. Ma. Teresita P. Gaspan in a separate interview on the Davao City Disaster Radio Monday morning said that no incident has been recorded in areas where people celebrated Easter such as beach resorts.
Gaspan attributed the successful Holy Week celebration to the interoperability effort of the DCPO in coordination with Task Force Davao and other members of the security and safety cluster.
Meanwhile, Sumagaysay said that the security cluster has set its eyes on the upcoming national and local elections. He said the cluster is all set to assist the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in election-related activities. He noted that the enforcement agencies, police and the military are under the direct supervision of the Comelec during the conduct of the national and local elections.
“Sa atoa sa part sa city government what we have to do is to support the needs of the people. Daghan daghan gyud ang atoang voting center so daghan ahensya ani nga nagtinabangay ubos gihapon sa leadership sa atoang Comelec (For our part in the city government what we have to do is to support the needs of the people. We have several voting centers in the city and many agencies are expected to work together under the leadership of Comelec),” Sumagaysay said. CIO
