A city government official has warned anew those who are planning to transport illegal contrabands, such as drugs and firearms, in Davao City, saying that security forces are on high alert against them.

Public Safety and Security Command Center (PSSCC) head Angel Sumagaysay, in an interview, said that several suspected drug couriers who attempted to sneak in illegal substances and guns have already been apprehended in different checkpoints in Davao City.

“We are giving a stern warning to those who are attempting to bring in to Davao city illegal drugs lalo na itong (especially this) shabu for their clients na nila sa (in) Davao City or any attempt gawing transient area ang city for delivery of same,” Sumagaysay said.

With the ongoing pandemic, border control has been intensified as part of the city’s measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19). While security forces have been an active partner of the city in implementing the guidelines against the virus, he said that law enforcement continues to be carried out.

In the recent report of the Task Force Davao (TFD), shabu, illegal firearms, and ammunition were confiscated during a checkpoint operation together with the personnel of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) in Bunawan, Davao City on October 23 and seized P23,000 worth of contrabands.

The authorities identified and arrested a certain Mark John Barrirta Villanueva, 37 years old; Jerome Delarmente Baysa, 40 years old; and, Ian Mark Delarmente Baysa, 35 years old. They are all residents of Brgy Fatima, General Santos City.

Based on the report, the suspects were supposed to enter Davao City from Tagum City when they were flagged down while onboard a white Toyota Hi-Ace Van.

Confiscated from their possessions were five small heat-sealed transparent sachets weighing around 1.48 grams with an estimated street value of P23,680.00; one Caliber 45 pistol with one magazine and five ammunitions; and one Caliber 9mm pistol with one magazine and five ammunitions.

“Relentless ang effort ng security cluster against anti-illegal drug operations and other anti-criminal activities para maundang ni (to put an end to this),” he said.

Meanwhile, the PSSCC chief advised those who are involved in illegal drug activities to abandon their deeds as a way to protect their families as he assured that security forces and law enforcers in the city will continue to strictly implement law enforcement operations to counter the proliferation of illegal drugs.

“Now kay nadakpan ni sila, sira agad ang pamilya tungod aning binuhatan nila. Unta mangundang na ni sila (Since they were nabbed, it will mess up their families. Hopefully, they will stop these illegal deeds),” he said.CIO
