The City Government of Davao, through its Peace 911 program, on December 12 held a Christmas Party for friends-rescued or former rebels (FRs) in Paquibato District.

A total of 37 FRs under the custody of Police Station 7 and the 27th Infantry Battalion participated in the event. Their families and loved ones also took part in the celebrations.

The celebration aims to give importance to the plight of former rebels in their endeavor to reintegrate into civil society, as well as to recognize their vital role as peacebuilders in sustaining gains in the once conflict-ridden area of Paquibato.

During the event, the participants took part in various games and fun activities. Several FRs and their families showed their talents in a singing contest and won prizes.

All who participated in the Christmas Party went home with grocery packs, loot bags and school uniforms for children gifted by the Peace 911.

Peace 911 Focal Person Atty. Jonah Presto said the Christmas Season embodies generosity, community, and reflection. These things, she said, best apply to the spirit of former rebels now trying their best to make up for their past actions by contributing to their community and protect its peace.

Presto added that everyone should be able to celebrate the Yuletide Season and that the spirit of Christmas should be felt by all, irrespective of distance or social status. CIO
