The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) has intensified its monitoring of checkpoints all over the city to ensure the holding of a peaceful and orderly Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.

DCPO City Director PCol Alberto Lupaz said that since the election period began and the nationwide gun ban took effect on August 28, the city police department has confiscated around 20 firearms through checkpoint inspections.

He said the police continues to inform and educate citizens regarding the gun ban regulations issued by the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

“Padayon ang atong information dissemination about sa Comelec gun ban ug continuous ang atong Comelec checkpoints ‘round the clock sa’tong siyudad (Our information dissemination about the Comelec gun ban continues and our Comelec checkpoints are active around the clock),” Lupaz said in an interview during the Madayaw Davao program aired over the Davao City Disaster Radio on Wednesday.

The DCPO has identified three barangays in the city that are to be closely monitored during the campaign period and on election day. These areas were singled out due to having candidates that are relatives. Lupaz said the police want to prevent family squabbles from turning into conflicts during the polls.

“Aduna kita’y mga barangay na gina-monitor kay tungod aduna kita’y mga mag-igsoon ra ang naglaban-laban sa ilang barangay, so gina-monitor nato ning tulo ka barangay karon diri sa atong siyudad sa Davao (We have barangays that we are monitoring because the candidates in these barangays are related, so we are monitoring these barangays in our city),” he said.

Lupaz said coordination meetings were held with Comelec and the Armed Forces of the Philippines in preparation for election day on October 30. CIO
