The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) on Friday sent off almost 10,000 of its personnel to provide security coverage for the month-long Pasko Fiesta celebrations at the Camp Capt Domingo E. Leonor.
Friday’s send-off was attended by Public Safety and Security Office Head Angel Sumagaysay, Task Force Davao Col. Commander Darren Comia, DCPO City Director PCol. Alberto Lupaz, officials from the Philippine Army and the Philippine National Police.
Aside from the estimated 10,000 personnel of the city police, another couple of thousands of personnel were also deployed from the safety and security, fire, emergency, traffic, and social service sectors.
The men and women in uniform will be securing the city during the various events of the holiday celebrations. They will also be providing public safety and emergency services for the month-long festivities
Sumagaysay, in his speech, said despite the low risk of a terrorist strike and a continuously declining crime rate, the city’s security sector remains on guard.
The PSSO Chief added that for the holiday celebrations, the top priority for surveillance are areas of convergence, particularly those privately-organized events. He said the safety sector has fully-deployed its emergency response assets to secure these events.
Reading a message from city mayor Sebastian Duterte, Sumagaysay added that send-off ceremonies have become part of the security culture of Davao City that remind both the public and the security sector of the city’s proactive approach to peace and order.
“Let this be a reminder for those who will be celebrating with us to remain vigilant at all times, and may we continue to rely on your active participation during the festivities,” Sumagaysay said. CIO
