The welcoming of the new year was generally peaceful in Davao City as reported by the security cluster to Mayor Inday Sara Duterte.
Mayor Duterte, during her Special Hours program aired via 87.5 FM Davao City Disaster Radio (DCDR) on Monday, January 3, 2022, read the Public Safety & Security Command Centerâs (PSSCCâs) report: âPlease be informed that the welcoming of the New Year was celebrated
with no significant incident relative to criminality, terrorism, and insurgency.â
The PSSCC also bared that there was no reported violation of the firecracker ban and any incident of stray bullet.
âOverall, our city has zero incident in relation to the New Year celebration,â the PSSCC report said.
Meanwhile, the mayor also read the report of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO).
DCPO reported, âThe celebration of New Year in Davao City from December 31, 6 p.m. to January 2, 6 a.m. was generally peaceful as there was no untoward incident reported.â
The DCPO apprehended two persons and rescued three minors who were then turned over to their parents for violating Davao City Ordinance 06-02, known as the firecracker ban.
The ordinance prohibits the manufacture, sale, distribution, possession, or use of firecrackers or pyrotechnic devices in the city.
Firecracker ban violators must pay a fine of P1,000 or a 20- to 30-day imprisonment for the first offense, a fine of P3,000 or a one- to three-month imprisonment for the second offense or both, and a fine of P5,000 or a three to six months imprisonment or both for the third and succeeding offenses. Business permit cancellation awaits establishments on their third offense.
Confiscated were 53 pieces of lantaka improvised pyrotechnics and two small boxes of pyrotechnics.
Meanwhile, the DCPO also properly responded and pacified unruly revelers in barangays Maa and Matina Aplaya during the midnight New Year celebration.
An incident of self-inflicted gunshot wound transpired in Barangay Indangan at 2:15 a.m. on January 1 where the victimâs firearm that was tucked on his waist went off, hitting his testicles while he was riding his motorcycle.
On the other hand, a physical injury suspect was also arrested in Malagamot, Barangay Panacan. It was the only crime reported during the welcoming of the New Year, according to the DCPO.
Mayor Duterte, for her part, greeted Dabawenyos, saying, âHappy New Year! Naghinaut ako nga ang 2022 magdala sa inyo og maayong panlawas, good health pirmi sa tibuok 2022 (I hope that 2022 will bring you good health).â CIO
