Davao City government workers under Job Orders and Contract of Service can now expect a higher pay in 2020.

This was announced by Mayor Inday Sara Duterte during her State of the City Address on Monday at the City Council. She said JOs and COS workers will get a P10 per day increase or P220 per month next year.

“The aim is to ensure that their salaries will in the future equal the minimum of our lowest permanent position. We recognize that even though they are not employees of the city, they nevertheless, work hard like any of us,” Mayor Sara said.

JO and COS personnel are currently receiving more than the minimum wage at P455 per day. The daily minimum wage in Davao City is set at P370 for non-agriculture/Industrial/Commercial and Retail/Service employing more than 10 Workers.

Job Simbahan, a JO worker under the Davao City Investment and Promotion Center (DCIPC), said the increase will help him, especially for his daily fare.

“Para sa akoa makatabang na nga increase kay ako taga-adlaw man ko ga-commute pauli ug padulong kay medyo layo-layo man ang amoa so in a way ang P220.00 nga increase makatabang when it comes sa akong pamasahe (The salary increase next year is a big help for me especially for my daily fare because I take the public transport everyday),” he said.

Simbahan said he was also hoping that the regularization of JO and COS workers will be fast-tracked.

Also next year, all plantilla employees of the city government will have an in-house health benefits package such as doctor’s consultation fee, hospitalization, and burial expenses. CIO
