Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte assured workers affected by movement restrictions that her administration is pursuing policies favorable to them under an extended General Community Quarantine (GCQ).

Mayor Sara made the assurance following requests for more establishments to reopen and more workers can return to work.

ā€œKahibalo gyud ko ana. Mao gani nang tanan nga favourable sa workerā€”tanan nga policy nga favorable sa worker, mao gyud na ang atoang gina-push, ang gina-pursue (I know that feeling. That is why we are pursuing and pushing policies that are favourable for the workers),ā€ she said.

The mayor, however, reminded Dabawenyos including workers and employers on the need to continue with the preventive control measures to contain the further spread of the coronavirus when more business establishments reopen.

She said she will discuss with the Department of Trade and Investment (DTI) being the approving agency to allow the reopening of other establishments like the internet cafes.

Mayor Sara was also particularly concerned for those workers residing in other towns and traveling every day to work in Davao City.

We should not tell those who are non-residents of Davao to travel and return to work, and when they have resumed work, tell them again to discontinue. That is not fair),ā€ she said.

Mayor Sara said the city government is conforming with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Memorandum Circular 20-22 that allows operation of some establishments. CIO
