Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte said on Friday that she has decided to tap the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender community for the 5th round of rice distribution amid complaints of favoritism from beneficiaries.
Speaking over the city-operated Davao City Disaster Radio, Mayor Inday said the complaints had been recurring, which is why she has decided to tap the LGBT sector, through Commissioner Norman Baloro, to spearhead the rice distribution.
“Duna man gud tay recurring nga problem nga kung kinsa ray duol, amigo, kaila, mao ray tagaan. So, sa atoang fifth round of distribution sa paghatag og bugas dinha sa mga barangay atoang gitanggal sa political structure,” she said.
“Atoa na gihatag [ang pagdistribute] sa LGBT sector na network,” the mayor added.
Mayor Inday said that she decided to give the task to the LGBT since they understand better what inclusivity is.
“The LGBT sector would be the best to understand anang being inclusive. Giingnan pud nako sila dili pud nila paboran ang LGBT lang. They need to find the people who are (in) critical (situation) katong walang-wala gyud ,” she said.
So far, the city government has already distributed 7.28 tons of rice to the city’s 182 barangays. Each barangay got 4,000 kilograms.
As to the food ration, a total of 788,656 food packs had been distributed since March 23.
Meanwhile, the Davao City Veterinarian’s Office has distributed a total of 9,866 kilograms of pork, 22,409 pieces of dressed chicken, 9,000 liters of fresh milk, 1,054L cooking oil, and 27 sacks of salt since April 14, 2020.
Mayor Inday also reminded the barangay officials to avoid politics during this time of crisis.
“Mag remind ko sa atong mga purok leader. Tarungon ninyo ang inyong trabaho because kaila mo sa mga tao dinha sa inyng mga communities. Ug duna moy leadership quality dinha sa mga purok. Dunay mga guidelines, mga criteria paunsa magpili og mga beneficiaries for each government assistance na ginahatag nato,” she said.
The mayor said that people should be helping each other in times of crisis instead of putting down one another.
”This is not the time para mangwarta ug palisdan nimo ang isig ka tawo. This is not the time na ipiton nimo ang kauban nimo dinha sa communties nga nanglisod tungod sa atong Covid-19 situation,” she said. ”You follow my lead. Wala mi gipili bisan dili namo kaalyado ang kapitan sa among pamulitika, gihatagan gihapon namo kung unsay ginahatag namo sa mga barangay captain nga kauban namo sa politika.” CIO
