Davao City Mayor-elect Sebastian âBasteâ Duterte has rallied Dabawenyos for their continued support and cooperation for a stronger and better future for Davao City, vowing not to let the trust of the people go in vain.
Speaking before the public after taking his oath before Judge Loida S. Posadas-Kahulugan, Mayor-elect Baste said, âEveryone should participate and cooperate that no one will be left behind in our journey towards a much stronger city and a much better future for our people. As a city mayor, it is my duty to ensure the implementation of the laws of the city. My mandate is clear – to promote and protect the welfare of the general public and I will do everything that I can within the boundaries of the law to deliver this mandate.â
His oath-taking was also witnessed by his partner and children, President Duterte, his mother Elizabeth, VP-elect Sara, supporters, and members of the newly-elected city officials.
Mayor-elect Baste, who will formally take the helm of the mayorship on July 1, 2022, underscored that economic recovery and poverty alleviation will be at the forefront of his administration. His areas of focus are efficient public service, agriculture, infrastructure, peace and order, health, and a sustainable environment.
For economic recovery and poverty alleviation, Mayor-elect Baste said that his administration would work to ensure that the businesses will continue to operate and job opportunities will be available. It will work closely with the investors, foreign and local, to explore more opportunities, vowing to be open to suggestions from partners in the business community to enhance the business climate in the city.
He said that his administration will further push for the digitalization of public transactions for efficient government processes, adding that the city will strive to observe laws on Ease of Doing Business and in partnership with the Anti-Red Tape Authority. He said, âInefficiency in local government will not be tolerated.”
He vowed to support the modernization of agriculture by providing farmers with agricultural inputs and technologies to boost food production.
Mayor-elect Baste likewise sought the implementation of the pieces of legislation that were passed while he was vice mayor such as the Single-Use Plastic Ordinance and Conservation area protection.
He also committed to continuing the implementation of the city government’s big-ticket projects such as the Waste to Energy project, Coastal Road, the By-Pass road Tunnel, and High Priority Bus System and would aim to put high-impact infrastructure development outside the city centers such as roads and bridges and the Davao City Hospital.
On security, Mayor-elect Baste said Peace and Order will remain a priority under his leadership, as he urged the security forces to ensure that people can do their everyday tasks safely.
The Peace 911, he said, will continue providing development in the far-flung barangays.
He vowed a strong hand against name-dropping and criminal acts, saying, “pag-abot sa balaod patas tang tanan ayaw mo og tuo anang name dropping (When it comes to the law we are all equal, do not believe in name-dropping).â He said his administration will always protect and secure its citizens from harmful citizens.
Mayor-elect Baste thanked the people who supported him and allowed him to serve the people.
Not everyone are given this opportunity that is why I will not let this be wasted. Let us help each other in running this city. I am ready to listen to all of you on how to improve our city. I am also asking you to do your responsibility as a Dabawenyo especially in following our laws),â the Mayor-elect said. CIO
