In recognition of its exemplary practices in improving the lives of every Dabawenyo, the City Government of Davao was given the Natatanging Lingkod Maralita Award during the culmination of the annual Urban Poor Solidarity Week (UPSW) 2023.
On December 7, the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor (PCUP) awarded the city for its exemplary performance in implementing its asset reform programs and urban development projects.
PCUP Chief of Operations for Mindanao Atty. Ferdinand C. Iman presented the award to Vice Mayor J. Melchor Quitain Jr., who was accompanied by Atty. Janis Esparcia, assistant City Administrator (operations), and Councilor Jessica Bonguyan, during the flag raising ceremony on Monday.
Ms. Mimia Canja, PCUP area coordinator for Mindanao, Davao City is a recipient of numerous noble awards and citations.
“Davao City is known for its strong commitment to social protection programs in improving the quality of life of every Dabawenyos through the provisions of healthcare services, educational assistance programs, livelihood support programs, and housing,” she said.
PCUP also recognized the city’s active support in institutionalizing the mandates of the commission, as well as for its compliance to RA 7279 or the Urban Development and Housing Act.
Moreover, the city has a functional Task Force on Relocation and Resettlement (TFRR), Local Housing Board, and the LHB-TWG.
The city also provides opportunities and initiatives that cater to the concerns of its housing beneficiaries.
A Local Shelter plan was also drafted for existing relocations, and there are ongoing projects that ultimately benefit the urban poor communities.
