The Davao City Social Welfare Development Office, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, and the Davao City Information Office received recognition during the Pagkilala sa Natatanging Kontribusyon (PaNata) ko Para sa Bayan Awards 2022 of the Department of Social Welfare and Development Office (DSWD) 11, which was held at the Royal Mandaya Hotel on March 31, 2023.
On behalf of Davao City, CSWDO Child and Youth Welfare Division Head Gilda Salvaña received the Gawad Paglilingkod sa Sambayanan (GAPAS) Award for Model LGU Implementing Day Care Services.
Salvaña said that on behalf of CSWDO head Atty. Marlisa Gallo, the office is thankful and happy that Davao City is able to garner the Model LGU for Implementing Day Care Services for the third time. Davao City has already been recognized, both in the regional and the national levels for the same category in 2020 and 2021.
âSo again hopefully [we will also be awarded] in the national level for the third time,â Salvaña said.
She said that the recognition is dedicated to all the children in Davao City. She also thanked the partner agencies, child development workers, and the barangay councils for the protection of children because without them, the programs for day care services may not have been implemented or sustained.
The DSWD noted the huge budget that the City Government of Davao allotted for Day Care services that spells out the huge support the administration provides to day care services.
For 2022, Davao City spent more than Php 72 million on day care program or day care service implementation.
Salvaña said that the fund went mostly to the salaries of day care workers, both plantilla and contract of service and home-based child development workers.
She added that the CSWDO plans to strengthen and reach out to more far-flung communities that do not have day care services. The city currently has 565 child development workers serving 182 barangays.
CDRRMO Head Alfredo Baloran also received recognition under the Most Outstanding Volunteer in DSWD Centers and Residential Care Facilities, particularly at the Reception and Study Center for Children (RSCC). The office has been cited for providing emergency and medical services for the children and the staff of the center, resulting in the implementation of its programs.
