The Davao City government has waived interest, penalties, and surcharges incurred for non-payment of all local taxes, fees, charges, and fines after putting the city under a quarantine zone since March.
The lockdown measures under the Community Quarantine (CQ) and the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) have limited the movement of people to slow down the spread of the coronavirus. The measures were adopted for the safety of the Dabawenyos.
With the extension and waiver of interest, taxpayers can still pay their taxes after the lifting of CQ/ECQ without worrying about incurring penalties.
The City Council during its regular session on Thursday, April 16, approved the ordinance proposed by Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang, the Chairperson of the Committee on Finance, Ways and Means and Appropriation.
The ordinance cited Sec. 192 of the Local Government Code of 1991 which provides that “Local Government Units may, through ordinances duly approved, grant tax exemptions, incentives or reliefs under such terms and conditions as they may deem necessary.”
The city government assured taxpayers they will be given a fresh period to pay such taxes, fees, charges, and fines without interest, penalties, and surcharges upon lifting of the CQ and ECQ. CIO
