A total of 10 mountain bikes were distributed to eligible city hall employees and qualified Dabawenyos during the Flag raising ceremony on Monday.
Davao City Councilor Tek Ocampo spearheaded the distribution of the bike sponsored by
Ayala Foundation, Makati Business Club and Grab under the “Wheels for Work” program.
The beneficiaries of the project included four city hall employees, two balut vendors, one fish vendor,
one single parent, a working student, and a carpenter/painter.
“Ang tumong niini is mahatagan nato og means of transportation ang less fortunate nga individual
nga naningkamot aron makatrabaho ug naay panginabuhian (The main goal of this project is to give means of transportation to less fortunate individuals who are working hard for their livelihood),” Ocampo, in an interview with the City Information Office, said, adding that their office, in partnership with the sponsors, identified the eligible beneficiaries of the project.
Ocampo said that the selection process has been rigorous.
“Gi-adtuan nato ni isa-isa ang mga aplikante, gitan-aw ang ilang kahimtang kung deserving ba gyud.. gitan-aw nato if need ba gyud nila og bisekleta for transportation sa ilang panginabuhian (Our staff went to the applicants one by one to check if they are indeed deserving.. we really checked if they need a bike for their livelihood),” Ocampo said, adding that more or less 100 applicants were screened.
He said that each bike cost approximately Php 15,000 with accessories such as helmets. Each beneficiary signed a contract that they cannot sell the bike for one year. CIO
