The successful staging of activities related to the 37th Kadayawan sa Dabaw was successful, largely due to the cooperation of Dabawenyos to protocols, such as the wearing of masks, Davao City Execom Executive Committee Spokesperson Al Ryan Alejandre said in an interview over Davao City Disaster Radio on Monday, August 22, 2022.

The various activities for the Kadayawan sa Dabaw started on August 5 to August 21.

“Generally we can say that malinaw, malampuson, ug masadya ang atong pagsaulog sa 37th Kadayawan (Generally we can say that the celebration of the 37th Kadayawan sa Dabaw was peaceful, successful and joyful),” Alejandre said.

He said it is laudable that the public cooperated with the protocols set, which made the staging of the events easy.

“Kani nga celebration, limited kaayo ang lihok but again wala ta nagpalupig niya proactive ta to really continue with our celebration even sa atong spectators we are also thankful (to them) for wearing masks. (This celebration, the mobility is limited but we did not let that stop us, we were proactive to really continue with our celebration and even our spectators, we are thankful to them for wearing masks),” Alejandre said.

He, however, said that at the last minute, Indak-Indak sa Kadayawan Participants were given consideration not to wear masks during the grand showdown so they could conveniently perform their piece.

Alejandre also noted that the Kadayawan has brought huge economic activity to the city. In a separate interview last August 21 after the Pamulak sa Kadayawan and Pitik sa Kadayawan announcement of winners, he said the city was able to reach more than the 50,000 -tourist target and the hotel occupancy rate supported this. Alejandre said that as to the income generated from tourists, it is still being verified.

“Nalipay pud mi nga nikita ang atong kaigsoonang Dabawenyo sa ingon ani nga panahon nga dagsa ang bisita (We are happy that our fellow Dabawenyos were able to make money when a huge number of visitors came in),” he said.

Meanwhile, Davao City Police Office City Director PCol. Alberto P. Lupaz said that the celebration of the Kadayawan was peaceful and that there was no untoward incident recorded. He said this signified that government offices can collaborate to make huge events in Davao colorful and safe.

He added that the Execom, together with its sub-committees, will conduct a post-Kadayawan briefing to report observations and areas for improvement – as a reference for future big celebrations in the city such as the incoming Pasko Fiesta celebration in December. He also invited the public to provide comments on how to improve the conduct of the Kadayawan Festival next time.

Alejandre said this early, the city is already preparing to host the Meeting Incentives Conferences Exhibitions (MICE) Convention slated in November. CIO
