The Kadayawan Execom is now coordinating with the Department of Education to use the recently opened Kadayawan Village for students to learn more about the tribes of Davao City.
This was bared by Councilor Al Ryan Alejandre, the Kadayawan Execom spokesperson on the sidelines of the opening of the Kadayawan Village last August 5, 2022, Friday.
“Atong expectation naa’y mga invited schools, teachers nato nga muanhi, naa’y mga demos nga mahitabo, weaving, cooking, again we would really expect students to come. Our events organizer is coordinating with DepEd regarding the invitation for all the students (Our expectation is there will be invited schools and teachers that will come here. There will be demos that will be conducted: weaving, and cooking. Again we really expect our tourists to come. Our events organizer is coordinating with the DepEd regarding the invitation for all students),” he said.
The village opening Friday drew the attention of many tourists and visitors as they excitedly visited each of the homes of the 11 tribes.
Davao City Mayor Baste Duterte, together with other city officials, made a tour of the houses, tried out their food and also mingled with members of the tribes.
Members of the indigenous communities, in separate interviews, expressed their huge thanks for the reopening of the Kadayawan Village as they are able anew to showcase their unique culture, food, dances, and rituals.
Roel Arthur Ali III of the Ata Tribe said that the tribes are really grateful for the reopening of the village.
“Dako kaayo namong kalipay kay ipasundayag napud namo ang among kultura, sayaw, tradisyon aron makita sa kadaghanan og mapasa ngadto sa mga kabataan, makita nila ba nga hangtod karon nagapadayon ang tribo. (We are really happy that we can show our culture, dances, and tradition again to many people and we can also show it to the youth so that they will know that until now, the tribes exist),” Ali said.
Norma Marohomsalic of the Maranao tribe said that the reopening of the Kadayawan village give them another opportunity to “expose” their tribe’s culture to the public.
Marohomsalic showcased the various snacks that are considered her tribe’s specialties.
Apart from Ata and Maranao tribes, others, such as Bagobo Klata, Bagobo Tagabawa, Matigsalug Tribe, Obo-Manuvu, Iranun, Kagan, Maguindanaon, Sama, and Tausug tribes also opened their houses to guests.
The Bantawan Cultural Show will be shown at the Kadayawan Village from August 16 to 21, 2022. Each night, the cultural show will feature one of the 11 tribes. CIO
