Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte said the operation of the Roxas Night Market remains suspended as the city is still under General Community Quarantine (GCQ).
However, Mayor Inday said she looks forward to the reopening of the Roxas Night Market, which has gained popularity as a destination, not only among the locals but also tourists.
While she cannot give a definite time frame as to when the Roxas Night Market could reopen, she said she was hoping it to happen very soon.
“Of course di nato gusto nga next year pa because dili nato gusto padugayon ang delay sa pagbalik sa trabaho and sa negosyo sa tao,” she said.
Mayor Inday said the reopening of the Roxas Night Market entirely depended on how soon the quarantine measures against the coronavirus disease 2019 are lifted.
While the night market remained inoperational, Mayor Inday said vendors there are not compelled to pay rents for the duration of the closure.
“Dili kinahanglan bayran tong days nga sarado ang tindahan sa mga City Economic Enterprises na mga business stalls ug spaces sa City Government of Davao,” she said.
The night market has more than 500 stalls. Its vendors were enrolled in the TUPAD program of the city and the Department of Labor and Employment. They were given P396 per day for a month’s work. CIO
