The City Government of Davao, through the City Health Office, will be conducting a Physical Therapy (PT) awareness and outreach program in celebration of the World Physical Therapy Day on Thursday, September 8.
The event will be held at the Rizal Park on San Pedro Street here from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and is open to people of all ages.
It will be conducted in partnership with the Department of Health, the Sangguniang Panlungsod ng Dabaw, the Davao Rotary Club and a number of private physical therapy clinics.
Physical therapy sessions, medical check-ups, scoliosis screening and therapy will be offered for free during the event. There will also be a mobile vaccination team ready for the unvaccinated or those who want to avail of booster shots.
Private clinics that specialize in pediatrics therapy, sports rehabilitation, neurological rehabilitation, and scoliosis therapy will also offer free services during the event.
Committee on Civil Political and Human Rights chair Councilor Benjamin Lorenzo Villafuerte, during the Madayaw Davao program aired through the Davao City Disaster Radio on Tuesday, said the event will show the importance of physical therapy in general health and the need for easy access to physical therapy centers.
“Sila naga-rehab nagahatag og exercises sa mga na-stroke, naa’y cerebral palsy, mga naa’y osteoarthritis, tong mga nabalian tungod sa aksidente, para ma-normal balik ang paglihok sa ilang lawas (They [licensed physical therapists] are the ones that give exercises to stroke patients, patients with cerebral palsy and osteoarthritis, those with broken bones due to accidents, so that they can regain normal body mobility),” Villafuerte said.
The councilor added that physical therapy is vital for people whose normal bodily functions have been damaged due to illness or accident in order to recover to full mobility and prevent permanent disabilities.
The 20th City Council is in the process of establishing a stroke rehabilitation center. The proposal has passed first reading. CIO
