The Davao City Government has put up quarantine stations in all entry and exit points of the city to prevent the entry of the African Swine Fever virus.

Dr. Cerelyn Pinili, head of the City Veterinarian Office (CVO), said they have coordinated with the Task Force Davao in putting up the quarantine inspection stations.

Pinili said the quarantine areas are in Barangay Lasang, Barangay Sirawan, and Barangay Lacson.

“Four people who will man the animal quarantine area, and they will be there 24 hours. The operations will be supported by the Task Force Davao,” she said.

Pinili explained that the inspectors will be there to check and prevent the entry of hogs from other areas and pork products into the city.

“Once the X-ray machine will detect meat, automatically it will be confiscated, especially if there are no documents,” she said.

Pinili added that the inspectors from their office will also check all the necessary documents proving that there is no infection in the area the hogs and pork meat came from before it will be allowed into the city.

“The officers will check the documents (to ascertain that these are in order), if not, they will be sent back to their place of origin,” she said.

On Tuesday, the City Council passed a resolution for a temporary ban om entry of hog and pork products in the city amid the reported cases of African swine fever in Luzon. CIO
