Officials of the state-run University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) and the City Government of Davao held initial talks to establish the university campus in Malabog, Paquibato District.

Mayor Inday Sara Duterte said the city government and USeP discussed details for the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and setting aside P54-million funds for the project.

“We are now working out the papers like the Memorandum of Understanding with USeP for the campus and all other details,” she added.

Mayor Inday said a budget of P1.2 to P1.5 million will also be allocated for the feasibility study on appropriate courses to be offered based on the interest of the students.

The establishment of USeP in Paquibato is part of the Peace 911 initiative aimed at helping senior high school graduates in Paquibato District to proceed to higher education without going to the city.

Mayor Inday had given her full support to establishing a university in Paquibato to open opportunities for senior high in far-flung areas, especially the indigenous people.

“Hopefully the building will be finished in 2021 or 2022,” she said. CIO
