The city government of Davao is now accepting applications for various scholarship grants it is offering for underprivileged but deserving students who want to pursue a college education.
Applications for the Scholarship on Tertiary Education Program (STEP) and the Law Education Assistance Program are accepted by the Education Benefits System Unit (EBSU) until April 30.
âWe are now accepting scholarship applications for the STEP and the Law Educational Assistance Program,â said EBSU Technical Assistant Emilio Domingo.
The STEP and the Law Education Assistance Program have been institutionalized by the city government since 2009. Thousands of students have already benefitted from the scholarships offered by the city aimed at helping poor students pursue college and improve the economic condition of their families.
Domingo said the city governmentâs education scholarship program is one way by which the city can help improve the economic status of the families.
The city is also offering the Medical Educational Assistance Program.
Students who want to become medical doctors can submit their applications from June 1 to 30, 2019.
Aside from the regular college scholarships, the city also offers scholarships under the Technical Vocational Program, scholarships for Differently-Abled Persons and scholarships for Indigenous Peoples (IPs).
When applying, Domingo said, applicants should bring the initial requirements for evaluation such as the report card for K12 graduates and the transcript of records for college levels.
Under the STEP, incoming first year college applicants should have a final average of at least 93 percent to initially qualify for the scholarship.
College levels (second to the fourth year) should have no grade below 87 percent in all subjects.
The applicants for the Law Educational Assistance Program must bring a photocopy of their Transcript of Records (TOR), certification of General Weighted Average of at least 85 percent and the Philippine Law Admission Test Result ( Philsat ).
âOnly15 slots are available for the Law Program and around 10 for the Medical program since we already have existing students and we will just fill in the available slots,â he said.
Students applying for the Medical Educational Assistance Program should bring a copy of their TOR, certification of General Weighted Average of at least 85 percent and the National Medical Admission Test Result (NMAT).
The city government provides full and partial scholarships for its Law and Medical Scholarship programs with additional P8,000 book allowance for law students and P20,000 book allowance per semester to Medical students depending on their scholarship type. CIO
