THE Davao City Educational Benefit System Unit announced on Friday, September 2, 2022, that the list of students qualified for educational assistance under the Scholarship on Tertiary Education Program (STEP) has been finalized.
EBSU Technical Assistant Emilio Domingo Jr. told City Information Office that these are scholars who passed the final assessment from among almost 2,300 applicants who applied.
Domingo said that 317 applicants were selected based on their grades and economic status.
âKanang 2,300 nga mga applicants qualified gyud na pero ang ato gyud nga ginapangita is ang most qualified sa ilahang tanan kay tungod sa limited lang man ang slots nato, sa akong gisulti nga 317 lang gyud ang slots nga available so mao na siya almost 2,000 pud ang wala nakapasok (The 2,300 applicants, they actually are all qualified but what we were looking for is the most qualified because we only have 317 slots, which was why almost 2,000 failed to get a slot),â he said.
Meanwhile, he also added that following the notice, a half-day scholarsâ orientation is set for the new scholars.
Davao City Mayor Baste Duterte congratulated the new scholars after the Flag Raising Ceremony on Monday.
He challenged the students to do their best to maintain their status and asked them to do better so that they can maintain their scholarships.
“Congratulations sa nakapasar sa atoang scholarship program, unta ayuhon ninyo unya ampingan ninyo ang inyuhang mga grado para dili mo matanggal pud, unya unta makatiwas gyud mo gamit ang atoang STEP program. (Congratulations to those who passed our scholarship program and I hope that you will do your best and maintain your grades so that you will stay and finish school through our STEP Program),â Mayor Baste said.
The EBSU recently became a recipient of 2,000 units of Pocket Wifi donations from Smart Communications and the said donations will be distributed to old and new scholars.
âFor the month of September, we plan to distribute it to our new and old scholars, almost 2,000 all in all,â Domingo said.
The City Government of Davao received the 2,000 units of pocket wifi from Smart Communications, Inc. at the City Mayorâs Conference Room, on August 17. CIO
