Businessmen from Chongqing, the People’s Republic of China will be coming to Davao City soon to sign trade and business deals with local traders.
The signing of the business deals came following Saturday’s visit of one of China’s top politburo officials, Chen Min’er, the Communist Party Secretary of Chongqing.
April Marie Dayap, the head of the Davao City Investment and Promotion Center (DCIPC), said Mr. Chen disclosed during his visit to the city that Chinese investors are interested in the manufacturing industry. Chongqing is known as China’s top manufacturer of cars. In 2015 alone, Chongqing manufactured over three million vehicles.
“It was mentioned by His Excellency, Chen Min’er, that they are going to bring big businessmen to sign deals with Davao City. I think it will be in the manufacturing sector since Chongqing is known for its manufacturing industry,” she said.
Dayap said the Chinese businessmen could put up assembly plants in the city.
“For now, we cannot precisely say that we are ready for the manufacturing industry to be established here in Davao, but we are ready to accept them and look for possibilities for more coordination for the benefit of Davao and Chongqing,” she said.
In an earlier interview, the president of the Davao City Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (DCCCII) Arturo Milan said that members of the China Bicycle Association are looking to establish manufacturing plants for bicycle, electronics and electric bicycles among others in the Davao Region.
On Saturday, Chen led a high-level delegation from Chongqing for the signing of the Letter of Intent for a sister city relations with Davao City which bolster trade and international relations of the city with China. The delegation will also discuss possible cooperation in Economy and Trade, Science and Technology, Big Data and Smart Technology, and logistics. CIO
