The Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) has not recorded casualties in Wednesday night’s flooding which affected several residential areas near the Davao River.
In an interview on the Davao City Disaster Radio Thursday morning, CDRRMO Head Alfredo Baloran said that there are no casualties recorded because people heeded an early warning of pre-emptive evacuation at past 9 PM Wednesday.
The affected areas were Barangay 5-A, Maa, 19-B, Tigatto, Buhangin, Waan, Matina Crossing, 8-A, 10-A, 9-A, and 76-A.
Based on the latest data from City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), a total of 2,064 families with 6,931 individuals were affected by the incident.
The city was able to utilize a total of 18 evacuation sites for the safety of the families. While some of the affected families have gradually returned to their homes, others need to stay in the evacuation centers because some areas are still flooded.
According to Baloran, CSWDO has dispatched the city government’s mobile kitchens to give hot meals to the affected families sheltered at the evacuation centers. Some barangays have also conducted community cooking to serve hot meals, he added.
The CDRRMO head also advised Dabawenyos, especially those living in flood-prone and landslide-prone areas, to be vigilant because the inclement weather conditions will continue even during the dry season.
Baloran said that the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has forecasted that the city will experience isolated rain showers or thunderstorms in connection with the Low-Pressure Area (LPA) affecting Visayas and Mindanao. CIO
