Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte has called on Dabawenyos to prepare for more rains due to the occurrence of La Niña from October towards the first quarter of 2021.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced that current conditions and model forecasts show there is more than fifty percent chance that a weak La Niña will develop either late October or November 2020, which may last through the first quarter of 2021.
“So, kinahanglan mangandam ang atong kaigsuonang Dabawenyo sa kaning ing-ani nga possibility. Kinahanglan ta mangandam [sa] bagyo and pagbaha diri sa atong syudad (Our Dabawenyo brothers and sisters should be ready for this possibility. We need to prepare for a storm surge and flooding in our city),” Mayor Sara said Friday’s broadcast of the Davao City Disaster Radio.
Mayor Sara said that Dabawenyos, especially those living in landslide and flood-prone areas, must prepare their important belongings and Go Bags in case of an evacuation.
She urged the residents in these areas to be vigilant at all times and heed advice for pre-emptive evacuation.
The mayor also urged them to keep posted on announcements at the official platforms of the City Government of Davao and the Davao City Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Office. CIO
