The Davao City Government will extend financial assistance to the victims of the July 27 earthquake in Itbayat, Batanes.

Members of the 19th Davao City Council approved on Tuesday the resolution seeking to give financial assistance amounting to P1 million to the affected residents of Itbayat.

The funds will be sourced from the Quick Response Fund of Davao.

“The money will go to the Municipality of Itbayat, since they are the most affected area. At least 1,025 families were affected of the 5.9 magnitude earthquake,” Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) head Alfredo Baloran said.

A total of 180 houses were damaged in the town because to the earthquake that affected four barangays.

“We will personally hand over the cash assistance to them as soon as we can. We no longer need to send them food packs since based on the reports that we received, they have enough food and what they need is a financial assistance to help them rebuild their houses,” Baloran said. CIO
